Kalorik Air-Fried Cherry Bliss, Celebrating National Cherry Turnover Day

On August 28, 2023, we're celebrating National Cherry Turnover Day by sharing our own delectable twist on this timeless treat! Introducing our Cherry Bliss Air Fryer Delights, a mouthwatering fusion of fresh cherries and innovative cooking.

Let's dive into the recipe and savor the magic of this special day together!

Serving Size: 6 turnovers

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

1 package (17.3 ounces) puff pastry sheets, thawed

1 cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Powdered sugar, for dusting

Equipment: Preheat your Kalorik Air Fryer or Air Fryer Oven to 375°F (190°C).

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the halved cherries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, almond extract, and lemon zest. Gently toss the mixture until the cherries are well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 3 equal squares, yielding a total of 6 squares.
  3. Place a spoonful of the cherry mixture onto the center of each pastry square.
  4. Fold each pastry square diagonally to create a triangle, enclosing the cherry filling. Use a fork to press the edges of the turnover, sealing the filling inside.
  5. Lightly brush the top of each turnover with the beaten egg wash. This will give the turnovers a beautiful golden color as they bake.
  6. Arrange the turnovers in a single layer inside the preheated Kalorik's Air Fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches if your Air Fryer's capacity is limited.
  7. Cook the turnovers at 375°F (190°C) for about 12-15 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
  8. Once done, carefully remove the turnovers from the Kalotik Air Fryer and let them cool on a wire rack.
  9. Dust the cooled turnovers with powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness.

Chef's Tip: Elevate your Cherry Bliss Air Fryer Delights by adding a delectable Sugar Frosting and a dollop of freshly whipped cream. Here's how:

Sugar Frosting:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Sugar Frosting: a. In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk or heavy cream, and vanilla extract. b. Whisk the mixture until smooth and creamy. If the frosting is too thick, add a bit more milk or cream. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar. c. Dip the top of each cooled turnover into the sugar frosting, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the turnovers on a wire rack to let the frosting set.

  2. Whipped Cream: a. In a chilled mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream. b. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form. c. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.

  3. Serving: a. Once the sugar frosting on the turnovers has set, place a dollop of freshly whipped cream on top of each turnover. b. To garnish, you can sprinkle a little lemon zest or finely chopped almonds over the whipped cream for an extra touch of elegance.

  4. Enjoy: Indulge in the harmonious blend of flavors as you savor the light and flaky turnover, the sweet and tangy cherry filling, the rich sugar frosting, and the creamy whipped cream. Each bite will be a symphony of taste and texture.

With this sugary twist and the addition of luscious, whipped cream, your Cherry Bliss Kalorik Air Fryer Delights will become an unforgettable dessert that's fit for any occasion.
